About Us

George Douglas, Bio

George started his fishing business in 1991 on the Salmon River in Pulaski, New York. He began Salmon River Success magazine and his own guide service which thrived throughout the 90's. In 1993, George published his first book, titled, “The Complete Guide to the Salmon River,” which quickly became “the Bible” for anglers who fished this river. With the success of this book, he went on to write five more books that have contributed greatly to the fishing industry.

Eventually, he ventured on from the Salmon River and moved to Washington State to learn about the west coast salmon and steelhead runs. This knowledge and experience led to Kype Magazine and multiple DVD's.

Kype represents a new and refreshing approach to salmon, trout, and steelheading--focusing on West Coast rivers, Great Lakes tributaries and trout streams across the continent.

A kype is a hook that forms on the lower jaw of a male trout, salmon or steelhead, during spawning periods. This is their badge of power and dominance, that is unique to only these species. It's an explanation point, similar to the rack of a male deer—a sign of a warrior—a sign of strength. These kype-busting-bucks are known to burn-out drag systems, shatter graphite, and snap leaders as if they were a strand of hair--and with such a mark of strength, thus the title of our magazine, KYPE.

Our corporate name, Castle Douglas Productions, was named after the town in Scotland (Castle Douglas), where George Douglas' family fishing tradition began.

In 2009, George was inducted into the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame as one of forty eight legendary communicators in the freshwater arena.
